Hey Everyone, I am new to forums, but I love this website. It has helped me in so many different ways, that most of the time I feel like I can actually knit something. I even made my first sweater (be it was a baby sweater, but still a great feat for me! :woot: ). I am trying to follow this pattern, but I have misplaced my size 5 needles, but I found my size 6 needles. How do you change the required number of stitches so it will come out the right size. It says CO 90 stitches for the size 5s, so how many do I cast on for the size 6s?? Please help… I hate when I get all confused, and it is happening a lot lately because I am 8 months pregnant! Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
Jesse
Welcome, and congratulations!
First you need to do a swatch and actually see how your gauge on the size 6 needles compares to the gauge called for in the pattern. You may not need to do anything different.
If you have too few stitches per inch, then you have to do a little math to see how many of your stitches would be equal to the same width of their stitches.
Let’s say, for example, that the gauge of the pattern is 5 stitches per inch, and you’re getting 4 stitches per inch.
5 st per inch over 90 stitches gives you 18 inches.
4 st per inch over 72 stitches will give you 18 inches.
See what I mean?
