Change a 5 dpn sock pattern to a 4 dpm

Question: I have learned to knit socks on 4 dpns. Is there a trick or something to keep in mind to change a pattern from 5 to 4 dpns? I also consider that to learn more, I should try the 5 dpn pattern. I’m looking at trying the Marly Bird pattern from Red Heart. I like the heel flap pattern for something different.

If the pattern mentions needle numbers e.g. number of sts to have on needles 1,2 or 3, you can always use markers to indicate the ends of the needles. You can change the number of needles you use or even go to magic loop that way.
