Champagne Anyone?

Hello all,

I was hoping to start a Champagne Leaf & Acorn Lace Shawl KAL. I’m working on x-mas gifts and this is the very first time I have ever decided to make Every gift I give and I could use the support. So if anyone is interested, please let me know. I want to get the yarn today. This is a free pattern and you can find the pattern at http://elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=250024. I think the pattern is also available in the anniversary issue of Vogue.

Thanks

I love the look of the wrap I am just not sure about the yarn as I am going to make it for my mom. Do you have any suggestions for a substitute?

I’m not sure what yarn would work well as a substitute, but I was thinking of trying Sinfonia because it drapes well and the colors are so yummy. If I can’t find a suitable yarn soon, then I will purchase the suggested yarn, as I am also making this one for my Mommy, and she is definitely worth the cost. Everyone else I’m knitting x-mas gifts for; I have found suitable patterns for the yarns that I have in my stash, but this one is very special, because I have never knitted for my mother, so I really want it to look beautiful and the yarn should reflect the work I plan to put into this one. Well I’ll keep you posted on the yarn substitution.

On the elann.com site there is a section where you can search for yarn substitutions. You may want to look at patterns worked up using Berroco’s "Cotton Twist " yarn. I like the way the yarn looks, but I still think I need something with a more dressy feel to it, but I’ll keep looking.

That is what I am thinking. Dressy but not glitzy is best for my mom. This is my first knitting for her too. I want it to be soft and drapey and feel yummy! The pattern is gorgeous though.

Since it is listed as worsted weight it should be simple to substitute. I think I will check Webs to see what I can find. I like there prices and the service seems quick. Also since I have to get my sister’s bag’s yarn there I may get enough yarn for the discount which will mean yummier yarn for mom.

I’m in. I decided to use the elann yarn “Pegasus” for this shawl. I will be using the color Sierra. I figured it is an acorn pattern and a warm fall color would go nice. I don’t know who this is for, but I can’t wait to get started. :woot:

I just ordered the yarn.

Thanks April,

I looked at the “Pegasus” yarn by elann and I really like it. I think I will order this one as well. It seems to drape very well and looks wonderful knitted up in the shawl I shall on the elann site. My sister is going to make the shawl for herself from the suggested yarn on the elann site. It seems “itchy” to me. My mother loves simple, yet elegant things, and while I know she will like the design of the shawl, I’m not so sure she would wear it often if I knitted it from the shinny, metallic yarn.

There weren’t many colors to choose from. I may go with the Natural color, or even copy the color you ordered. Hope you don’t mind. I’m so excited about this project. I hope some other people join in, but even if they don’t, the three of us will have a ball :woot:. You have to excuse me; I just love creating things, especially for the ones I love. Well, I’m off to finish up some projects and maybe some house cleaning. Chat later…Knittycat:knitting:

I am thinking of going with Bristol Gallery King George for mine but honestly can’t decide. Need to figure it out soon!

We can do the same color. I don’t mind. Great minds and all that. :teehee:

Hi,
I’m pretty new to knitting and the forum, but, this pattern is so beautiful I want to try it. Is there still room for one more?

AprilT

There is always room for more. I have joined but probably won’t get started for a couple of weeks while I get a couple of things off of my needles and I have still to order yarn.

Great!
I ordered yarn from Elann and won’t be able to start until it gets here. I ordered the Pegasus in French Lavendar, it looks like a good sub for the Champagne. I agree that the Champers looks a little scratchy.
I guess I’m making the shawl for myself, I’m the only one I know who uses them. :teehee:

Well I was thinking of Using King George but now I am thinking andean silk. I want to feel soft and luxurious and yet still be affordable since I realized I may need to do three.

Welcome AprilT. The French Lavender is very nice!:yay:

Melissa, I think Andean Silk would be wonderful. It’s so yummy.cloud9

Good I needed to hear that my choice woulld be good. I am being so wishy washy on this but now there it is decided. Andean silk in some color. One in cranberry, one in pitch and the other in cream. I think…

Wow, Melissa, the Andean Silk has some pretty colors. I love the cranberry. Very lucious.

Hi Ladies,

My sister and I both got our yarn yesterday. My sister got the suggested yarn and I got the Pegasus Natural color. Now that I have touched the suggested Champagne yarn, it’s not so bad. Has anyone else got their yarn for this project? Well I’m off to cast on now. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress.

Knittycat:knitting:

Yes! I got my Pegasus “Sierra” yesterday evening. :woohoo: It’s so pretty. I started trying to swatch the shawl pattern. The recommended 10 1/2 needles were too big. I have gone down to a 10 and it seems to be much better. The Pegasus yarn is nice. I like the feel of it. cloud9 I can’t wait until I actually get to the shawl. I hate swatching. :ick:
