I have a pattern where I have knitted/purled 20 rows then I have to cast on 10 sts. then knit to end of row. I know how to cast on at the end of a row but not at the beginning. Thank you for your help.

Cast on the 10 sts at the end of the previous row. It should work out just fine for you. Casting on at the beginning of a row really doesn’t work. Can you link to your pattern?

I would use either the knitted cast on or the cable cast on.
