Casting on stitches at beginning of row

Hello everyone! I am new here and currently working on Fiber Trends’ huggable hedgehog. The instructions say to cast on 5 stitches at the beginning of the row. I heard of using knitting cast on but I do not know how to do it at the beginning of a row.

At the beginning of a row, just pretend the sts on the needle have already been cast on instead of there previously. Stick the right needle into the first st, and put the new stitch on the left needle. Repeat.
