Casting on purl stitches

Trying to learn more knitting techniques but I'm having problems with casting on purl stitches (as an overall increase).

I'm working stocking stitch and when I'm on purl side, pattern says "cast on 4 stitches at beginningof this row".. How do I do this. Have u-tubed a few links but still don't understand how it's done. Can anyone suggest an easy link to learn this technique?

For 4sts you can use a backward loop or thumb loop cast on. It’s a kind of neutral cast on which will work either with knits or purls. Often this kind of cast on becomes part of a seam anyway.
What is the name of your pattern and designer? What part of the project are you working?
Here’s a video for a cast on in purl in case you decide to use it.

This link you sent me is so easy to understand. She demonstrates it beautifully. I’ve watched many on u-tube but couldn’t get the knack of it.
Thanks salmonmac for helping me learn another knitting technique :ok_hand:
