Casting on more stitches after already knitting several rows

I’m working on this pattern http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/60635.html
for a bunny blanket. It starts at a bottom corner, then increases to 28 stitches. The next row is to cast on 14 stitches and then knit to end of row. How do I cast on more stitches? Do I cast on to the empty needle, or the one w/ the 28 stitches?
Thanks for any help. I’m quite new to this- only my 4th project.

i forgot to say thats so cute who is it for?

You cast the stitches onto the one that has the stitches. You can use the loop, or the knitted or cable cast ons.

Thanks for your help. I’m going back to look at the vids some more. I’ve learned most of what I know from this site and from practicing. I’m making this for a friend at work who is having a baby. If it doesn’t work, I have time to work on a regular blanket.

it will work out! ucan do it! and there are lots of people hear to help u. its so nice of u to make that for your freind.

This is how I usually cast on new stitches.

  1. Stick right hand needle as if to knit on left hand needle’s first stitch.
  2. Pull out new loop and place it over the left hand needle.
  3. keep doing this step until you have the required stiches added on.

If purling, purl the new stitches on instead of knitting them. Good luck!
