Casting on making mittens

[COLOR=“Magenta”]Hello. I am making mittens for the first time, and the pattern says

put next 12 sts on a holder, cast on 2 sts, and knit to the end.

I have no idea how to cast on 2 stitches with stitches already on the needle.

I only know how to do a long tail cast on, and I tried that, but it didn’t seem to work.

PS. I need instructions like you are telling a 2 year old. I am extremely visual, and struggle with written instructions.[/COLOR]

To caston in the middle of the work, you need a 2 needle one like knitted or cable CO. You can use the back ward loop too (the thumb part of a long tail) for only 2 sts.
