I am knitting pattern 9724 by Knitting Pure & Simple. I am knitting in the round and have come to the part where I need to divide for the sleeves. What I don’t know how to do is cast on stitches while you’re in the round and in the middle of the row.
Here’s what the pattern says:
"using a blunt darning needle and scrap yarn, slip all the sts between here and the next marker on to a length of yarn to hold for the left sleeve. Cast on to the right tip of the needle 10 sts and join to the back sts. " It repeats for the right sleeve.
So I understand that I need to slip the stitches between the 2 markers onto a piece of yarn to hold them for the sleeve. I just don’t know which cast on method to use. E-wrap? :??
If I don’t have very many stitches to cast on in the middle of something I often use a backward loop (I think that is the same as what you called an E-wrap). But if it is quite a few stitches I think one of the knitted on cast ons work better. I like the cable cast on about the best. It is the same as a regular knitted on cast on, but instead of knitting into the end stitch each time and pulling the loop made, up onto the LH needle, you knit into the space between the first two stitches, right under the needle. If you only have one stitch, you begin by knitting into it and then you have two and start working between them.
I’m sure Amy has that in her videos up at the top of page, where it says, “View Videos”. Look at the cast ons to find it.
either do a Provisional Cast on, or a figure 8 and keep the other cable ready
BECAUSE
later in the pattern you will be picking up stitches from these stitches and knitting DOWN the sleeves
you will see, if you have pending live stitches, you have less of a seam under the arm
