Can someone please give me detailed instructions on how to cast on in the middle of a row?
Thanks much!

I would use the backward loop method, and you come to where you want to cast on, cast on as many stitches as you need, and knit on, on the next row, treat them as if they were any other stitch.
let me be one of the first to welcome you to this forum. As to your question, haveyou checked the increase ideas in the basic techniques heading. I myself like to turn my work around and p or k the new sts using what I believe is called cable cast on method. This gives a tight row of sts . Good luck Ellie
There are different castons in Cast-on in the Basic Techniques, many of which will work well in the middle of a piece.

I favor the same method! There is a video which shows how to do this in the second half of the buttonhole video under advanced techniques on this site.
Good luck!

Great thanks everyone! I am downloading the buttonhole video right now!
