Hi, new guy in town…
I’ve been trying to start a project with intarsia and think I might have bitten off more then I can chew. I’ve been trying to cast on in my different colors but the seperated pieces make “notches” in the work. Am I needing to cast on with a pure color and then change colors on the first row, or do I join the cast ons somehow?

When you change colors, twist the two working yarns around each other. Don’t twist so tightly that they cause a pucker, but also not so loosely that they cause a gap. A little practice and you’ll get it just right.
Or you can cast on in your background color if you want. It depends on the look you want.
