Casting on extra stitches

Hi there,

Hope someome can help me with this one.
The pattern tells me to cast on 8 stitches (46 stitches already knitted) at row 20. I have done this.
The pattern then tells me to purl 7 stitches and inc at end. No worries
The pattern continues using the extra 8 st increasing to 29 st but mentions nothing of the previous 46 stitches until -

the patterns says to pick up the stitches left for the neck, k2tog, k44, pick up nose, cast on 2 st, k27, k2tog: 75st

This is the part I don’t understand.
I currently have the yarn at the end of the needle with the original 46 st at the closed end of the needle and then the extra 29 st ready to be worked.
I don’t understand what to do now.

Can anyone help me on this one?
Much appreciated,
Jo

It’s hard to tell without the pattern, but it sounds like you’re going to now knit across all your stitches–the 29 at the end, knitting 2 tog to avoid a hole between those and the original 46, and continuing to work across as the rest of the line states. Does that make sense?

Ingrid,

Thank you for replying. What you said makes sense. The problem is that the yarn is at the end of the 29 sts I just finished knitting, which means I need to start at the 29st and then knit the 46 sts. The patterns has it the other way round.
"pick up sts left for neck, k2tog, k44, pick up nose, cast on 2 sts, k27, k2tog:75sts

Do I make sense?

Thanks,
Jo

:?? Is there any way you can post a picture?

Ingrid,

I can’t post a picture at the moment, my scanner is not working. I am knitting a toy horse’s head from an old book. If I show you the pattern will that help?

Kind regards,
Jo

I’m not sure if just looking at the pattern will help, since it’s not a run-of-the mill pattern. Plus I’m a bit concerned about copyright issues. If all else fails, you could pm me with it and I can give it a shot.

I think what I’d do is work all the way across from where you are. Then you can work back the way they say to. Do you think that will work?
