I am a brand new knitter and am lost when it comes to casting on circular needles. I need help! Where do I turn?

Casting on a circular needle
Cast on the same way you do for straight needles. If you’re knitting something flat, then turn and do the first row, just the same. If you’re knitting in the round, you need to make sure that you have enough to go all the way around to join them. If you don’t have enough sts, then look at the Magic loop video on the Advanced Techniques page to see how to use that. Or you can do a single loop, or knit the first row flat, then join at the end of it.

Are you talking about using a circular needle to knit flat, back and forth? You cast on to circular needles like any straight needle, just make yourself believe one end of the circular is a straight needle and do it the way you always do. When you finish a row and are ready to turn, you exchange the two needle ends from one hand to the other. That is the same thing you do with straight needles, but it seems so obvious using the straights but it works the same way with the circular. Just seems a bit weird at first.
If you are trying to knit in the round, ignore all this.

I like knitting back and forth on circulars. I’m not hunting for runaway needles in the sofa. They’re always attached.
