Casting on 2x2 rib

I am currently trying to decide how best to cast on 2x2 rib for a top down sweater. Do I use a long tail or I’m not sure of the name of the other method where you put the needle between the sts. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos but I’m getting more confused

I usually just do a long tail cast on for most projects and find it is stretchy enough for neck edges, socks etc. It probably depends on your tension and how tight a knitter you are - we’re all different in that respect
I agree that the videos available for casting on (and pretty much everything else) is bewildering!! By the time you’ve watched half a dozen you’ve forgotten what you were trying to find out in the first place :joy:
I like Very Pink knitting videos, I find her easy to understand and they are usually short and to the point and, just to add to your confusion, here is a very nice looking (but a little long winded and busy) video by her for 2x2 rib. It looks a really neat edge and I will try this myself one day…if I remember about it!!

Thank you I’ve managed by watching sister mountain, she starts with a 1x1 rib and then switches to 2x2; not easy to explain here. I’ve just done 14 rows in rib and 3 straight rows, now I’m looking to change colour
