Casting Off - Help!

Hello,

I am a brand new knitter. I saw the casting off video and followed it step by step… And now I have one, lonely last stitch on my needle! I don’t want to slide it off in case the whole thing unravels. What do you do with the last stitch… And am I even supposed to have one? Yikes!

Thank you…

Yes, you always end up with one stitch. It won’t unravel unless you pull on the yarn from the skein. To alleviate that, cut the yarn a couple inches away from the stitch, pull the loop out and thread it into the adjoining sts.

Yes, you will have one stitch left over. I cut my yarn 4 or 5 inches away from the work and often use a crochet hook to pull the tail through that last remaining loop. You can do it without a crochet hook too if you can, enlarging that last loop and pulling the tail through it makes it easy to do without a crochet hook. Once you get the tail pulled through the final loop you pull on the tail gently until it snugs up even with the other stitches. Then you work the tail in for several inches and cut it off…but that is another topic.

Ooooh, thankyouthankyouthankyou. I can do that. And I didn’t even mess anything up! I was sure I had done something wrong.

Gracias.

Well done you x
