I normally use the long tail cast on method unless a pattern tells me otherwise. With this method it tells you that the first row is already knitted for you. I am knitting clogs right now. Would I knit that first row or start with row 2? I have been knitting my first row then doing row 2. Do I need to correct my ways???
Since I am helping someone to knit, I don’t want to be a bad teacher! :teehee:
I think in one of her videos Amy said that since you get one knit row with the cast on, your first row will be a purl row. She’s the one I learned from, so that’s what I’ve been following. I don’t think one row really matters in the scheme of things, though. If you like what the cast on looks like from the other side, go for it!
I’ve come up against this before with people who say `you always have to start with the WS of the pattern if you do a long tail CO because you already have the first row’ so I did a little experiment, and I suggest others do too. CO about 10 sts with a long tail, then CO another 10 using backwards loop and purl back along the bw loop CO 10 sts. You’ll see that the longtail doesn’t look like it’s got an extra row, it’s just a firmer edge.
