Cast on while already knitting?

Hi everyone,
I’m following this pattern: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/khs-decoratedCap-1.html?noImages=0
About six rows in, it says: “Next Row Cast on 13 sts, knit across – 70 sts.”. How in the heck do you cast on a new row?
If you look at the full pattern, it’s in the HEM section.
Thanks,
Tami

I still haven’t figured out how to cast on at the beginning of a row–so I cast on at the end of the previous one which IS the beginning of the row, technically.

Now that I’ve thoroughly confused you, :teehee: , just cast on 13 stitches on your right needle, using any of the one-strand techniques. Then turn the work and knit across these and the rest of the row.

You can cast on at the beginning of the row using either the knitted or cable cast ons.

Thanks!! I got it figured out.

That’s my point, Sue. Don’t you really do them at the end of the previous row since they get worked on the next row? When I read ‘cast on at the beginning of the row,’ I picture casting on and then finishing the rest of the row. Maybe it’s just semantics, but it bugs me. :teehee:

I dunno Ingrid, I guess it’s semantics, though you do cast on, work those stitches and then finish the rest of the row, so it seems like the beginning of it to me. When I see instructions for casting on at the end of a row, I cast on at the beginning - the needle’s in my left hand, not my right. Unless I use backward loop CO.

 All that matters is that it works. It just causes confusion.
