Someone in an LYS told me that it’s easier to cast on a long straight needle a size larger than you plan to use for your afghan and then move your knitting to a circular needle for row 2 forward. I’m still having a consistency problem with casting on (some loops are big, some little) and wondered if this might work. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this and if so is it okay to use a larger size needle for the cast-on row?
Sure you can use a larger needle to cast on with. Some people just CO tight, so have found going up a size or 2 helps make the first row easier to knit into. Uneven tension does straighten out after a while too.
Thanks for the info. I’m going to give it a try this very minute. Do I just come back for row 2 with my circular needle? Will check back in with results in a bit.
Yes, then just knit the first row (the cast on is not a row, it’s just the cast on) with the other needle.
