Cast-on question

What cast on do I use if I want the cast-on stitches to stay live? I think I remember seeing that before but I can’t remember what it is called. :??

It’s called provisional cast on. Amy has a video for it in the video’s section.

Or you can co with scrap yarn and knit the first row with the project yarn.

suzeeq,

That is brilliant! I have not heard that before. Not too surprising since I have only been knitting since last January.

Still really cool.
I can not wait to try it.
peace

It’s a very easy to do PCO, though picking out the scrap yarn could be tedious.

:teehee:

Yep it is tedious later but when I am in a hurry to caston I sometimes do something similar, a longtail with thumb strand done in waste wool.

Talk about stepping into the quagmire:) . . . The provisional cast-on video on this site has been the subject of many a posting. Apparently very frustrating and difficult to follow. Out of curiosity, I took a look, and despite over 4 decades of knitting just about everything, couldn’t figure it out, either. There’s something she’s doing which you just can’t see in the film. But the method I use for PCO is shown in this video, and you might find it easier to do: http://www.knittingatknoon.com/provisional.html
