Cast on for ribbing

Hi All,
I’m doing a tiny project - wrist warmers - and since I’d only done one project in the round before, using 2 circ’s, I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out the dpn method.

Uh-huh.

I’ve got 28 sts, spread over 3 needles - it’s taken me about 2 hours to do 4 rows - and what a mess! I’ve never tried anything so awkward in my life - I bow even more humbly than before, to all of you who whip up socks on these things :notworthy:

Now - if anyone would please tell me if there’s a cast-on method that’s best for ribbing, I’d really appreciate it. Meanwhile, I’ll go dig out my trusty circ’s…

Thanks,
Lynne

Like everything else, it does take practice with dpns to become comfortable. i think it took me approximately forever. Sometimes it’s easier to start the project knitting flat and then join after one or two rows. Those first few rows on dpns can be painful.
I like the long tail cast on or, if you really want a stretchy cast on, the German variation on long tail.
