Cast On for English Rib

Hi, I am thinking about starting a sweater/jumper by Drops Design called Avriel. the pattern is an English Rib which I have never done before. It says to cast on and purl the first row (wrong side). My question is would it be better do the cast-on in rib pattern? Also, how do I figure yardage needed and is C yarn the same as 4 weight yarn?

The cast on is really a matter of preference. You could try your good-sized gauge swatch half in one, half in the other and see which you like better.
The pattern is knit in English rib (commonly Brioche stitch) in Drops Air.

This yarn knits at 17sts/4inches in stockinette which puts it about in the aran or heavy worsted class.

The pattern in the circled size calls for 400g of the 50g balls. That’s 8 balls of yarn that has 164yds or 150 meters per ball. So 8x164=1,312yds or 1,200m.
