Cast On During Knitting But Don't Work Stitch?

Hi there~I’m relatively new to knitting and brand new to this forum. I thank you in advance for your help!

I’m about to start the pattern I attached (wasn’t allowed to post the link, sorry)

And while reviewing it I came across this instruction and was confused:
Row 13 (ws): purl to last 2 sts. Cast on 1 stitch, purl last 2 sts

Does this mean I cast on a stitch but don’t work it? I imagine this extra stitch is a loop for the button but I’m not sure what to do with it after it’s created.

Any advice would be appreciated.

~Courtney

Welcome to KH. You should be able to post a link now. I’d like to see what it looks like.

From your pattern:

Row 12 (rs): k2, cast off 1, k3, c3f, k3, k3fcn, *k6, c3f, k3, k3fcn, repeat from * to last 6 sts, k6

Row 13 (ws): purl to last 2 sts. Cast on 1 stitch, purl last 2 sts.

If you look at Row 12 you’ll see that it says “cast off 1” so you’ll be casting on 1 to make up for it. Unless your pattern specifies a backward loop cast on should work here. You can’t work the stitch now, you will on the next row. HTH

Ah ha! So when it says purl to last two stitches I actually purl to the last stitch then cast on one then purl those 2?

Purl until there are 2 left, cast on one to the right tip and then work those last 2.

Your link didn’t like me, is that it?

Hope that works!
