could someone advise - in a pattern (the one I’m struggling with is for gloves) it says ‘cast on and K2, K12’ and ‘cast on and P2, P12’ does this mean cast on 2 then knit the 2 before carrying on or cast on and immediatly knit 1 then cast on the other? I’ve been getting in a mess trying both ways (I’ve not been knitting very long so it may be I’m missing something entirely).

Cast on and knit?
Is this happening over a thumb gusset or something? I would interpret it to mean that you cast on two (probably the backward loop method) on the left needle, knit those 2, then K12. Does that work?
It occurs at the start of each finger, I’ll try your suggestion (having watched the backward loop method video)- and many thanks, I’m sure one day I’ll manage a pattern without needing to look something up!
