Cast on 32 sts, then 2 more - 16 sts?

I am knitting a sweater. Experienced level. Guess I’m not there yet cause I don’t have a clue what this means. Can you explain it to me?
Cast on 32 sts. Work 3 rows in St st, end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Cast on 2 sts, p to end - 16 sts. (Don’t I have 34 st at this time? Why would it say -16 sts? I’ll keep going in case this other part gives you any clues.) In this manner, cast on 2 sts at beg of every WS row 19 times more, then cast on 3 sts at beg of every WS row 5 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when there are 32 sts on needle, end on WS. (What does this mean?)

Do you have a link to the pattern? I don’t see how the numbers work out.

The numbers are not working out for me either and I’m a numbers person. I don’t even see how it could be a typo. Also, did you check for Errata before you began knitting. I’ve learned here that it’s an important step.

Never heard of Errata but now I have. Thanks. I think I’m going to go to my local knit shop and pay for 1/2 hr expert advice. I am anxious to move on.

Let us know what you find out. It may be the new math with lesser values of 34.

LOL Angela. Love that new math. Yeah, this definitely looks like a typo of some sort to me. :knitting:

Like everyone else has stated, the stitch count doesn’t make sense.

If it came from a magazine, I’d check to see if there is a correction on their website to the original pattern. I’ve had that happen to me & I drove myself crazy trying to make it work. When all along, the pattern had an error.

Thanks everyone for trying… I’ll let you know what I find out.
