Cast off

Hi All i am knitting a matinee coat ( first time in years) got stuck on pattern Divide for armholes got so far on this row now k21 sts. for Right Front, cast off 12 sts,k42 including st. on needle for back, cast off 12 sts,k to end My problem is right front cast off 12 sts how do you do this when the stitches are to come off the right knitting needle??? am i thinking this through right please help many thanks. marlene :??

It looks like your casting off in the middle of the row for the armholes. Just do exactly what it says, knit, cast off, knit, cast off, knit. You’ll end up with gaps between the knitted sections, but you’re supposed to.

Many thanks ingrid but my pattern reads like this Next Row (buttonhole row)- k2,y,fwd,k2tog,k21 sts for right front cast off 12sts,k42 including st on needle for back cast off 12 sts k to end. continue on the last 25 sts.as follows Marlene .My problem is how can i cast off sts that are already knitted on my right needle sorry if i sound confused.

All your stitches ready to be knit are on your left needle.

You do the buttonhole stitches, knit 21 stitches, bind off the next 12 stitches for the first underarm, knit 42 stitches across the back, bind off the next 12 for the other armhole, and then knit across the other front. Is it the lack of commas in the pattern that’s throwing you off?
