Cast off

Hello
I am trying to make my first sweater but I need help with the pattern

  1. Is cast off the same as bind off?
  2. This is the pattern Cast off 8 in patt at beg of next 2 rows. 52 sts.
    Cast off 8 sts in patt at beg of next w rows 36 sts leave rem 36 sts on a stitch holder.

Yes cast off and bind off are the same. I think it’s a European/American difference in terminology, that’s all.
