Carry or cut striped scarf pattern

I am making the African Sunset temperature scarf. It has 8 different colors and most of the time it seems I will have to change colors over more than 6 rows. My question is, when this happens should I just cut the yarn and add it the next time it comes up? Thanks!

Here’s the link to the pattern:

Either way can work, although carrying 7 colours up the side could get a bit bulky. I’d suggest trying a couple of options on a small swatch.

The “10 Rows a Day” website has some good tutorials on stripes, including carrying colors and weaving in ends.

There are other ways out there, but hopefully this is a starting point.

Oh, I just thought of another idea: using an i-cord edging.

Again, this might get too bulky with 8 colours, but maybe you could do something like tying one colour to the next and hiding the knot and the carried strand inside the i-cord.
