Carpal tunnel

I think I might have carpal tunnel in my right arm. I can’t crochet or knit and typing is hard as well. This really sucks! I am going to the doctors today. I crochet baby shoes and sell them online I have many orders and now I can’t complete them until this goes away.

Has anyone ever had this? Does it ever go away?

I was having problems due to holding my heavy baby. I wear a wrist brace (with the metal thingie) when sleeping etc.

I get tendinitis sometimes and it feels much as people say CT feels. Let us know what the doc says.

Yeah I got carpal tunnel. I have to wear a brace for a couple of weeks. I have to hold off on knitting and crocheting for a couple of days. They also put me on a steroid. I just have to pray that I won’t need surgery.

You can use ice and stretching, too. Not that many people need surgery, but, a friend of mine had surgery for it a few months ago (he had put up with it for quite some time) and he is pretty happy with the way it turned out. He had a really extreme case, though. I’ll bet you’ll do fine.

I am still in pain after 2 weeks. I have not been knitting as much or crocheting. It really sucks. I have to go back to the doctors. As I type it is painful. The pain is all the way up to my elbow.

So any update?

I have this, too, from too much knitting. Advice given to me was to do some firm but slow exercises on the affected arm, stretching, light weights and bending and flexing. This helped me.

They told me not to use the arm to keep it in a brace while I knit and crochet. I am gonna have to do some research and see what else I can do.

The only time I have gotten carpal tunnel symptoms is when I had to purl a lot, or when the needles I was using made the yarn drag and I had to exert a lot of pressure. You could try different ways of knitting, like switching to continental, etc, avoiding certain stitches, stretching and not working too long at a time.

I am gonna try that thanks. I think that mostly because I crochet like 5-6 hours a day 7 days a week is why I have this. I have cut down how much I crochet and it seems to be helping.

FWIW I knit now instead of crocheting because knitting is easier on my hands and wrists. YMMV

Me too. I used to crochet incessantly…in the car, watching TV, on vacations, at the beach etc…until I got sore hands, elbows and shoulders. I switched to knitting for a couple of years. Now I can crochet again, but not for extended periods.

I guess “too much of a good thing” is really true. Shame, when you love it. But I try to remind myself: Variety is the spice of life.

Good luck!
