Carlena Dress

I am making a really cute little dress,(Carlena by Taiga Hilliard) I am a bit confused on this instruction,

Purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, K2tog 1(1,0,1,1) time, (Purl 1, knit 1) repeat to the end 148(148,168,188,208) stitches

So I am making the size with the 0, so do I just have 2 purl stitches together? I already tried it with p1, k1 to the end, but it messed up my seed stitch pattern and I ended up with rib stitch.

How many stitches do you have on the needles to start with? The number needs to be divisible by number of sts in each pattern repeat. The P1 K1 in brackets is a bit odd, usually after brackets there is a number to repeat i.e. (P1,K1) twice. Would it make more sense if the (P1 K1) was AFTER K2tog, (for your size omit the K1P1)? That would give you a 6 stitch pattern. Hope that helps, Jenny

That’s the prettiest little dress yet. Thanks so much for the pattern reference.
You should end with an even number of sts (168sts) on the needle for the third size. Try working the k2tog even though it shouldn’t be worked for your size. K2tog rather than p2tog will continue the seed pattern.

That should keep the seed stitch aligned correctly.
Purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, K2tog, (6sts)
(Purl 1, knit 1) repeat to the end (162sts)
Total 168sts.

That dress is adorable! Makes me wish I had a little one in my life to knit for!

One project in Ravelry mentions that the neck opening was too small. You might want to check before you get too far?

Thanks for the advice, I am not too concerned about that because I am using a bigger needle (4 mm when it said 3.25) Thanks for bringing that to my attention I will keep that in mind for the next time <3

It is coming along beautifully!

I do not understand this:

Round 36- (Knit 1, (KFB) work 7 times) work 14 times, (KFB) 3 times

Do I work it KFB 7 times and then K1 with the KFB 14 times? The way it is written is baffling me!

I thought about it for a while and I solved it! I get what to do now!

Good for you for figuring this out. Good to know you are progressing through this sweet little dress!

Always a great feeling to figure something out for yourself! I also find it sticks in my head better, because I’ve puzzled my way through it. Which is not at all to say you shouldn’t ask for help when you need it.

The dress is turning out beautiful, but it is taking FOREVER!

All good things take time and patience. So good that it’s turning out well. It’ll be worth it when you see the finished dress, worth all the effort.

I’ve been working on the Marsha Shawl since July. I’ve just finished the first skein (of two). Might be done by Thanksgiving! Things take the time they take.
