Cardigan troubles...please explain!

Okay, I am working on the front left edge of a cardigan right now, and am having trouble understanding this pattern…
I am just about ready to cast off up towards the shoulder/neck area, and have 20 sts. on my needle. The pattern reads to
"continue straight until left front matches back to start of shoulder shaping, ending with rs facing…
shape shoulder: working (k2tog) twice across top of cables, cast off 6 sts at beg next row and foll alt. row, work 1 row, cast off remaining 6sts."

My questions are as follows. First off, what does “work straight” mean? Is that the same as continue in pattern (which in this case is a cable and ladder type design)? Second off, where do I knit 2 tog. at??? It says across top of cables, but I have only 1 cable (10 sts) and 2 “ladder” type desigs, each of which is created by purling 2 tog, (yo) twice, then p2tog again.

Please help!!! I am at a loss for ideas here!!!
Thanks much,
Cass

Working straight means just that–continue as you have without any increases or decreases.

Knit together the two center cable stitches. When you bind off a cable area, they often reduce the number of stitches above the cable so it doesn’t look stretched out. If the pattern says ‘cables’ it’s just using a general term, I’d leave the other part as is.
