Cardigan for Merry... cables

I’ve found the pattern called “Cardigan for Merry” on Anny Purls website, and just love it and want to knit it. But I’ve just realised the cable instructions aren’t included and it seems I need to buy them elsewhere, as they came from an adult sweater “for Arwen”.

As I don’t knit adult garments, I wondered if anyone knows if the cable instructions are available anywhere else. A free download perhaps?

If you don’t have access to that issue of the magazine, you can buy just the one pattern for $5.95. If you still don’t want to do that, you can get some pretty close up photos of the cabling and then go to a cable guide book (harmony’s or vogue - they both have recent books just full of cable patterns) and find one similar or even identical.

It’s not up now, but they may release the pattern for sale by iteself on the knittingdaily.com website. Or you could email them and ask for it.

I was browsing the Web and read that the cabling is done from a chart, which scared me! I’d much rather use written instructions - don’t trust myself with a chart and if I was to buy the magazine and have it sent out here to Australia I might be wasting $$$ on something I can’t use successfully.

So for now I might take the suggestion of finding a similar cable pattern in a book. Might start with the library.

C4B=slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k2 from left needle, k2 from cable needle

T4F=slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, p2 from left needle, k2 from cable needle

T4B=slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k2 from left needle, p2 from cable needle

C4F=slip 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, k2 from left needle, k2 from cable needle

worked over 22 stitches
(including reverse stockinette stitch background)
ROW 1: P1, k2, (p4, k4) twice, p3

ROW 2: Work stitches as they appear

~Rows 1 and 2 will not be repeated~

ROW 3: p1, k2, p4, C4B, p4, C4b, p3

ROW 4: Work stitches as they appear

ROW 5: p1 (T4F, T4B) twice, T4F, p1

ROW 6: Work stitches as they appear

ROW 7: p3, (C4F, p4) twice, k2, p1

ROW 8: Work stitches as they appear

ROW 9: p1, (T4B, T4F) twice, T4B, p1

ROW 10: Work stitches as they appear

REPEAT ROWS 3-10 FOR CABLE

That looks like the cable, unless you could tell me where to find the chart, then I could tell you for sure. But this looks JUST like the cable you want.

Thank you MaleKnitter - That’s wonderful!!! I’ll knit a swatch and give this a try. There’s no way I could have figured that out, as I haven’t done much with cables.
