Carbeth Cardigan question

This question may go unanswered as it is a change in a pattern but maybe someone has done this: I would like to remove the purl “triangles” on both the fronts and back of this sweater to make it more “plain”. If anyone has knit this sweater like that could you kindly tell me how you did it?

Thank you so much!

The angles shapes look to be stockinette on both front and back. They are the design feature in this pattern so it might be better to look for a similar but plainer pattern rather than try to change this one. You can do an advanced search on Ravelry specifying yarn weight and simple design if you wish.

Thank you salmonmac. After a look at the pattern I did see that it is stockinette and the angles are left and right decreases, way to complicated for me to try and revise. As you suggested I will look for a plainer pattern.

I can’t help you, but THANK YOU for posting this cardigan. It’s GORGEOUS and now in my favorites over at Ravelry.

Hello PNWKnitter,

I am working on my second Carbeth. If you decide to knit it I suggest that you look around at others to see what they did to revise the fit. It’s a very cropped sweater and I found that I wanted it a bit longer in the sleeves and the length. Also, the neck short rows help tremendously with the fit.

Cheers!

Hi newishknitter,
I whole heartedly agree with salmonmac regarding looking for a substitute pattern as opposed to changing this one. However, if the reason you wish to change it has to do with the challenges this one may seem to present, then I would encourage you to give this one a shot and see how it works out. The more I knit, the more I learn, both about knitting techniques and reading patterns, and also about myself and what I can and sometimes think I cannot (but actually can) do. If you decide to challenge yourself, give yourself permission from the get go to make mistakes. It’s okay and it’s how we learn. If you decide to go with a different pattern after, good for you and most importantly, have fun!
