Can't make sense of pattern

Amon on raglan yoke waheca sweater tells me Dec every other round until 7.1 inch from join then decide if you want hoodie or high neck.
Have done the 7.1 ins and have 72 St’s left then says. Bind off 5 in centr front and yoke knitted back and forth flat.
This is where I’m confused repeat raglan Dec and knit 2 ins more or until 72 St’s remain on needle well I’m 67sts after the bind off.
Have measured sweater against one that fits and I’m already up to neck. Without the extra 2 ins.
Then tells me knit a round and Dec to 64 St’s then it’s knit hood in ss.
If I’m up to neck already shall I ignore the 2ins and just Dec 3 St’s to bring me to 64 and just knit hood?

You may need the extra 2 inches or even one inch between the body and beginning of the hood depending on the hood shaping. Can you try the sweater on and see how the hood would sit in relation to the neck and the cast off sts at the center front? Then you can decide whether you need the extra inches.
Posting a photo might help, too.

Did you by any chance switch and start reading instructions for a different size? It’s easy to do, especially when there are so many sizes, and could account for you having a different amount of stitches than it calls for. If not, it might help to see a photo of your work.

@salmonmac, that link doesn’t work. I think it’s this:

Thanks ColoCro!

No from the join it was 1 row raglan Dec and I knit row until 7.1 ins I started with 216 on yoke and ended 72. Bit hood got button band as well. Going back and forth ss till hood 18 ins then next twelve rounds shape top back side hood then its graft hood to close. Might change mind a do polo neck - says pick up St’s along steek knit 2 rows ss fold over seam, steek sandwich , so as conceal seam inside hood .
Looking at pics in book if I Dec now would be when I start neck turtle looks like button is situated where you would have turtle neck and when sewing together says I’m sewing bottom of button band by laying ends over each other achieve folded look.

Will try sweater on tonight am stacking logs at moment and covered in greenery and mud look like I’ve been dragged through hedge backwards.
Thank you both for help

Yes, if you’ve already reached the desired neck height based on your comparison with a well-fitting sweater, you can likely skip the extra 2 inches. Instead, decrease 3 stitches to reach 64 stitches and proceed with the hood in stockinette stitch (SS).

However, if you want to ensure a good fit, you might double-check the pattern’s structure—especially if the extra 2 inches affect how the hood attaches. If the fit seems right, following your adjustment should work fine.

Wow, this sweater is beautiful and so nicely knit. Measuring to another sweater is a good check. Maybe put in a lifeline at this point just in case.
What yarns are you using? They work so well with the sweater, especially the white.gl

Thanks it’s my favourite yarn alafoss it’s thick and knits up quick but my god does it malfunction keep saying I’m going write istex and offer be their quality control.
Haven’t got enough black so hood is going be orange with black band my neighbours will see me coming a mile away!

Sounds like a good color change even if necessitated. Probably erring on the side of safety too.
I’ve used icelandic yarn and like but never Alafoss. Something to keep in mind.

Some of the yarns are so loosely spun that they separate easily. At least you can usually just lay the ends over each other and there’s enough “tooth” that they rejoin without knotting them.

They always seem to go wrong towards end of ball they go very very thick then skinny also knots, when I did wilderness sweater for my son 3 out of 7 balls main colour were absolutely awful so thin, but I still love it for all its little quirks.
