Can you purl 2 tog. to decrease?

I am making a hat with circular needles and somehow it’s inside-out so instead of knitting every row I am purling every row. (this is my first non-scarf project) so once I get past the body of the hat I have a bunch of knit 2 tog. stitches to finish and I just want to make sure that I can do that with purl and get the same result. Thanks! Next time I will try not to turn my work inside out before I get so far

Sure, purling two together will be fine.

Yes, like Plantgoddess says, you can just insert your needle through 2 stitches instead of 1, then bring the yarn through as usual to make 1 stitch.

Simple.

But… you’re working your hat inside-out? That has a truly simple remedy: take hold of your needles like you’re getting ready to work. Now… take the bottom of your piece and push it through the inner circle of your needles till it rises above your needles. In other words, turn your piece inside-out.
Presto! You’re now knitting/working on the right side. :woohoo:

Hope this helps,
Dot

But she’s purling it inside out. I think she ought to keep going until it’s done, then flip it.

I understand that. But it usually helps to understand what is happening when things look a little odd.

That’s all I meant.

The reason your work is inside out is that you are most likely knitting on the side away from your body. If you envision your needles as a circle like a cup, you should be knitting where you would drink from the cup. If you’re doing that, it should stay right side out.

As others have said, you could continue as you are with purling and do the P2tog just fine…or you could probably flip it right side out and got back to knitting.
