Can you increase on a purl row?

HI everyone…I am working on a pattern and need help…I got some what of an answer to my question earlier thank you…but I am just wondering…here is where I am stuck in the pattern…Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on 3rd and each of the following next 4 rows. 58 sts.. ok…now can you increase on a purl row or do I only increase on knitted row, purl, knit and increase…or is there a way to increase on a purl row…help please…thank you so much in advance…

Yes, if you need to increase on every row, then you have to increase on the purl side, as well. You can do a M1 purlwise, or purl into the front and back of the stitch.

If a pattern has you increase on every 4th row after that, then it would work out that you happen to increase on the knit side.

You can use pfb to increase, or M1 and purl into it instead of knit into it. The increases pages has links to videos showing the purl methods of doing the increases below the descriptions.
