I’m knitting a pair of socks for the first time, on only two needles, although the needles are swapped twice in the pattern.
I’ve come stuck at the part that reads “cont dec as set to 12(12:14:14:16)”
I’ll type out the part of the pattern that this is in.
1st row : K11 (11:12:13:14) s1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
2nd row : P4, p2tog, p1, turn.
3rd row : K5, s1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
4th row : P6, p2tog, p1, turn.
CONT DEC AS SET TO 12(12:14:14:16)sts.
Next row. K10(10:12:12:14) s1, k1, psso.
Next row. P9(9:11:11:13) p2tog. 10(1012:12:14)
So what does it mean by continue to decrease? I don’t get how I am meant to do that, do I carry on with the next steps or do I do the repeat of the four rows? Or something else?? Please help? This is my first time knitting socks!
In each row you’re working one more stitch before the decrease (underlined) than in the preceding row. So basically, repeat the pattern of these rows but work one more stitch in each row before decreasing.
The next row would be k7, dec, k1, turn and the following would be p8, dec, p1 and turn.
Now that you’ve got it figured out, I’d like to ask about the pattern. You said it’s on two needles. How does that work? Is it knit flat or in the round?
It’s two needles, you start with 3.25mm and then swap to 4mm then swap to 4.5mm and then back to 3.25mm (I think, I don’t have the pattern right now) it’s knitted flat, so I had to just sew the back of the leg up and then the sides on the feet together and the toe! It’s quite simple and worked well, I’ve just started on the other one, so hopefully I’ll have that done in a few days.
