Can someone help me understand stitch increases?

IMG_7872

Hello everyone!

I’m learning to knit and I’m starting my sleeve after managing to make a back and I don’t quite understand this part but I might be over thinking it! I’m doing medium in orange so need to increase on 4th row.

I have done the “increase 1 stitch at each end of next row” bit which is a knit row. Do I now count the next purl row as 2 in part of the group of 4 meaning that the 4th row which I need to increase on is a purl?

Or do I start the count again at 1 in the group of 4 rows meaning that I’m increasing stitches on a knit row?

I really hope that makes sense! And thanks so much in advance!! xx

Welcome to the forum!
Start the count at one again so that there will be 3 rows with no increase, then an increase row.
If you call the “next row”, row 1, the increases will be on rows 1,5,9,13,17 and so on until you reach 59sts. These will all be knit rows.
What is the name of your pattern and designer?

Thank you so much salmonmac! That’s so appreciated. That’s what my instinct said but then I stopped trusting it :joy:

The pattern I’m using is this Caron crew neck one
