Can I just check my understanding of this pattern?

Hello again!

I’ve come for your expertise and just to check that I’m getting this properly.

I’m about to shape my neck. I’m doing it in medium so the orange instructions working with 53 stitches. Is what I’m doing now basically dividing the front of the jumper into 3 sections and working up each side? So I’m working 2 sets starting 16 stitches each and leaving 21 in the middle.

Where it states dec 1 at neck edge on next and alt rows AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st at raglan edge (as before) does this mean that I’m decreasing 2 stitches per odd numbered row (if next is counted as 1) one at the beginning and one at the end. With the raglan edge being knitting to the last 4 stitches doing ssk and knitting 2 as I was shaping the raglans earlier. Now I’m writing it down that seems logical. Does it matter how I decrease the stitches on the neck edge as long as it’s consistent?

Also, whilst I’m working the first part can I just put the remaining stitches on 2 stitch holders in their groups? I’m worried that if I leave the stitches on a needle it’ll fall out.

Thanks so much in advance. I realise that this is a super basic pattern so it’s a bit embarrassing to have to ask but I’ve done better than I thought I would and I don’t want to mess up now!

Yes, that’s the way to work the decreases, 2 per odd number row. For the first shoulder, the raglan edge is at the beginning of the row and the neck edge at the end of the row. Since the first direction at the top of the photo (“All sizes:…”) has K2. ssk. that should be consistent with the way the raglan has been worked earlier in the pattern for that edge. Then the raglan edge would continue that way for this shoulder as well.
For the second shoulder the raglan edge will be at the end of the row and then you would knit to the last 4sts, k2tog, k2.

Hello
Just want to say you needn’t be embarrassed by any question. No one here will judge your questions. Just ask, and if the answer doesn’t make sense ask again.

When you are not working a group of stitches you can put them on a spare needle or a cable with stoppers or onto stitch holders or even a length of scrap yarn or thread so they are safe.

Enjoy your project.
