can i start this in purl as the rs as opposed to knit? how would i treat the twisted st’s on the 2nd needle? when you knit, you knit through the back loops for that first row, how do i purl to untwist the sts on that row?

WHY do you want to do it in purl?

You can untwist purl stitches by knitting into the back of them. That would be putting your needle from back to front.

i’m making a pouch and wanted the bottom to be purled.

i tried it and it looks funny. the nature of the cast on is to be knit, and the st that are 1st on the needles always end up as knit rows. i some how need to get them flipped over to the bottom to get the 1st row to look right.

ugh, nothing is easy!!

Ummm…if it won’t work any other way, do the cast-on on a dp, then cut and rejoin the yarn on the other end?
