Hello,
I’ve just started knitting a jumper with a cable pattern, the bottom half of the jumper is just reverse stockinette and the cables start about halfway up. But I’m not really a fan of how reverse stockinette looks, if I change the pattern for it to be all in regular stockinette is this going to affect how the cables look? (it’s my first time doing cables)
If so could I maybe do the bottom half in stockinette then when I get to the cables swap to reverse stockinette or will that look really odd?
Thanks
I think both your suspicions would prove to be correct. Most cable patterns are against reverse stocking stitch because it makes them stand out, but maybe what you could do is have a smaller amount of reverse SS around the cables, to “frame” them, and have the rest as stocking stitch. I think having half and half would look odd, but maybe it might end up looking ok. What matters is if you like the finished result, though.
In this example there are only a few stitches of reverse SS between each cable: https://howdidyoumakethis.com/five-cable-knits/

Thank you for the advice and reference pic
I think I’ll have a play around with a couple of swatches and see how they turn out
