Hi there,

I have just started knitting again after many years and have been asked to knit a toy. Think I must be having a brain fade but can’t get my head around the start of the pattern and what it wants me to do - can anyone help please? The pattern says:
First and following 3 alternate rows (rs): purl
Inc row k9…
Inc row k10…
Inc row k11…
Inc row k12…

Just can’t get my head around how many rows I should be knitting before the first inc row or between the increases!

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome!
What is the name of the pattern you’re working and the designer?
Sounds like row 1 after the cast on has increases in it. Then increase on rows 3,5 and 7. The pattern information may help to be sure.

Hi there - the pattern is from a book of knitted farm animals by Sarah Keen - I normally have no trouble with patterns but as I’m a little rusty this. Has thrown me already!! Thank you for replying

Very nice. Which animal are you making?
If you’d like you can quote the instructions exactly just don’t post a large portion of the pattern (due to copyright).

I’m making the ram and these are the start of the pattern I’m stuck with.
First and foll 3 alt rows (RS): Purl
Inc row: K9, m1, k14, m1, k9 (34sts)
Inc row: k10, m1, k14, m1, k14 (36sts)
Inc row: k11, m1, k14, m1, k11 (38sts)
Inc row: k12, m1, k14, m1, k12 (40sts)

It’s not perfectly clear but sounds like:
row 1(RS) purl
row 2 Inc row: K9, m1, k14, m1, k9 (34sts)
row 3 purl
row 4 Inc row: k10, m1, k14, m1, k14 (36sts)
row 5 purl
row 6 Inc row: k11, m1, k14, m1, k11 (38sts)
row 7 purl
row 8 Inc row: k12, m1, k14, m1, k12 (40sts)
