Calculating decreases

Sometimes a pattern will say decrease 10% or 5% around (if knitting in the round like I am planning) so what combination of knitting and K2TOG = what percentage?

If I want to decrease 5 % say, at what intervals do I need to make a decrease?

That would be the % of the st number you’re starting with, so once you figure that out, divide it by the stitch number. Say you have to dec 10% of 150 - that’s 15 sts/150 so your decs would be every 10th st or k8, k2tog.
