Cabling w/o needle / combined knitting problem *pics added*

i’m doing some cabling w/o a needle, which i’ve done before, but never used on a whole project. on some of my 3/3 cables, the 1st or last stitch of the cable set looks… like kinda elongated and curves around. i can’t tell if it’s normal or not or something i’m doing wrong… i’m going to try to get a pic but for now, anyone have any clues?

p.s. i’m a combined knitter, so the knits are twisted when i come to them for the cable, so i have been slipping them tbl in order to make them untwisted before cabling… don’t know if that matters. thanks!

ok, the pics are kinda big to show detail, so i’m going to link offsite

cable trouble 1

cable trouble 2

please work 1

and please work 2

you know, I get that same problem, although it used to be a lot worse when I used to use a cable needle, it’s still there without a cable needle, but not as pronounced.

So, to me, your cables look great, but maybe someone else might ‘see’ this as a problem and be able to give us some pointers.

After all that, sorry I couldn’t be more help

it is helpful to me just to know that i’m not the only one with weird problems and i appreciate it.

i think i will give it a go with a cable needle next round just for the heck of it as i don’t recall having this problem in the past, and at least that way maybe rule out whether it’s a problem with my cabling or something to do with the combination knitting that i’m doing incorrectly.

thank you!

Usually stitches in cabling look too big or stretched out on the row you’re doing them and the next row, but after you get a few more inches done or are finished they even out. Blocking and/or washing helps too.

sue

thanks, sue! I think I actually was slipping wrong, as well, I checked Grumperina’s chart, so am trying that now, as well.

Thanks again!
