Hello all… i would really appreciate some advice…
I’m working on my first cable pattern. Here are my problems.
First, I would like to believe that I am giving a nice tug on my yarn to tighten it up, but there is still quite a gap between my knits and purls. Is there anything I can do about this?
Second, I never thought myself a tight knitter, so is it normal on the row that I am working the cables to be extremely tight? and if not what can I do about it?
Thanks for any feedback, it would be really appreciated…

Its hard to tell what’s ‘normal’ without actually seeing it, but when you are making a cable, the stitches that are used for the cable will naturally be a little tight. You can’t take, say, three stitches from here and move them over there and not expect some stitches to stretch out and be tight.
I’m wondering the same question as Aello. The stitches on either side of the cable are always really stretched, any tips?
I can remedy it if I knit really tight, but that is uncomfortable and then the rest of my guage is too small.
The only thing I can suggest is to be very conscious of that stitch and pull the yarn tight as you wrap it so that your previous stitch snugs up to the current one.
Just wanted to say thanks again for the help foddle and everyone else. My cables are coming along beautifully, I am so proud of myself lol. I am actually really enjoying doing them now. I’m having fun with it. :happydance:
I think I’m foddle…ya know, that has a ring to it! Foddle I be.
I’m so glad that I could be of some help to you! I hope that you’ll post a progress picture over in the article thread for us. I’d love to see what you’re working on!
Igrind, Yup I am learning. I think I am doing a pretty good job though (Pats self on back)
Folded, lol I am sooo sorry I can honestly say that I looked up from my keyboard when I was typing and I wrote “fodle” I hit delete to fix it and I guess that went terribly wrong lol  I think I may have had :XX: on the brain XD
I will be glad to post picks… as soon as I figure out how to not make them as big as all my past attempts have been lol.
