I’m fairly new to ML and have a quick question. Does the work have to be split exactly in half? I’m doing a cabled hat and one of the cables falls part on one side of the split and part on the other side if that makes sense. Is it okay to rearrange the stitches so that cable is all on the same side? That’s what I would do with DPNs.

Sure, I do it all the time. I make mittens with magic loop and like to use a k2,p2 rib. I put something like 20 on one needle and 16 on the other to make it easier. I just have to remember to even them out again when I’m ready to do the stockinette part.
As long as it’s fairly close it works fine. I do it all the time so I can start with a knit.
