Cables and short rows?

I’m working on a pair of wool pants for the new baby. I’m about ready to start my short rows and the pattern says :

knit to within 7 stitches of Marker A…

Okay well 7 stitches before Marker A is the first knit in my cable pattern. My cable pattern is a 9 stitch braid going down either side of the pants. So, when I get to it, I purl 2, and either knit 9, cable 6F or 6B or knit 3…depending on what part of the pattern I’m on.

If I haven’t thoroughly confused anyone yet, what’s the best way to incorporate my short rows into the cable without ruining it?

Can you just skip the cable there?

I probably could. This is the cable pattern :

k 23, p 2, k 9, p 2, k 23, p 2, k 9, p 2
k 23, p 2, k 9, p 2, k 23, p 2, k 9, p 2
k 23, p2, C6F, k3, p2, k 23, p2, C6F, k3, p2

Start short row

k 23, p2, k9, p2, k 23, p2, k9, p2
k 23, p2, k9, p2, k 23, p2, k9, p2
k 23, p2, k3, C6B, p2, k 23, p2, k3, C6B, p2

But, I’m not that knowledgeable with short rows, so wouldn’t it mess with the rest of the cable, or will it not be in the way?

Is the cable part of the pants pattern, what i mean is did you find a pattern for a pair of pants and decide it would look good if you added in a cable? or was the cable wirtten into the pants pattern already?

The pattern doesn’t have cables originally, I added them. I added stitches to accomdate them and adjusted the math. I decided to just do the short ros in between the cables once I realized that because I’m doing it ML style, they’re not exactly split down the middle. I mean, I have the same number of stitches on each needle, but to center it perfectly would desect the cables.
