Cabled wrist warmers

Made 3/4 of one wrist warmer. 2x4 ribbing at each end and 6st cables throughout length of pattern. Got first round past thumb-hole done, tried it on…and can’t even get my hand through the cabled part :frowning: Ribbed part is an ideal fit. I though about casting on an extra 6 stitches to give the room my hand needs…but then the ribbed part (which I’d like to be kind of a snug fit) seems loose and sloppy when I try it on. Any thoughts? Elegant mitts.
Try casting on the original number of sts for the rib and then increaseing 6sts (or whatever seems best) so that the increases sts fall between the cables. Then on the last cable row, decrease the same number of sts so that the rib at the end is as you like it.They’re going to be lovely.

You could also use smaller needles for the rib and the same number of stitches as for the hand. It just depends on which way you prefer or have the needles for.

Hadn’t thought of that one. Thanks for the idea. Planning to make a cabled hat and this mitt pattern matches the hat cables closely…which is why I really want to make these work so they’ll fit!

Ended up combing both suggestions. Went down a size for ribbing (fits even better now) and increased 8 stitches right before beginning first cable row…pleased to report it’s working like a charm. Does happy dance:woohoo:

Excellant! I hope we get to see a photo of the finished mitts. They’re susre to be a hit.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious here…but how does one post a pic in a forum post? Got one mitt done!!

Not so obvious but here’s the link:
