Cable stitching anyone else having trouble!

Im trying a new stitch to make a scarf!!! put im having problems the cable are just not looking right… :frowning: what am i doing wrong???..
my 1st row is knit 2nd row purl rep 3rd& 4th then i start the cable C4B then i rep row 1-6 …but everything just blend right in!! the cable does not stick out and its fluffy at all…it curls from the bottom and the side and its just not working… how do i do a reverse stocknette will that help?

thank u patience is a virtue… but im determine to learn!!!

Cables do need to be on a background of reverse stockinette if you want them to “pop.” So I’d just reverse what you’re doing…P the first row, K the 2nd, P the 3rd, K the 4th.

Or if this is easier…say you have 20 stitches inside your non-rolling border…

P8, K4, P8
K8, P4, K8
P8, K4, P8
K8, P4, K8
P8, C4B, P8
K8, P4, K8

and repeat.

(With a garter stitch border it would look like…

CO 26 sts

K 4 rows

K3, P8, K4, P8, K3
K3, K8, P4, K8, K3
K3, P8, K4, P8, K3
K3, K8, P4, K8, K3
K3, P8, C4B, P8, K3
K3, K8, P4, K8, K3

and repeat until desired length, K 4 rows, then BO.)
