Cable stiches

I find cable stiches become very tight when knitting
Can any one suggest any easier way of doing it.
As a practice can I use 10 or 20 stiches
Also need to know the second row of knitting the cable stiches. How it works

Thank you

Working a sample over 10-20 sts is a good idea. Try cables that are 4 or 6 sts total with the other sts worked in purl as a background. On the second row the the cable itself is most often purled.

If you’re a tight knitter it may help to work the previous row slightly looser.
