Cable Socks KA Anyone?

I just finished my Rainy Day Socks and am dying to make something cabled. Since socks are so quick and easy it’s nearly instant gratification…who’s with me???

I haven’t decided on a pattern yet. I need ideas.

Here’s a good one, called Spicy…not really a cable I guess, but still gorgeous JIC anyone’s interested.

Hey there! :waving:Does it count if I am already 1/2 way through my second sock? I am working on the Uptown Boot socks from Favorite socks, and they are cabled. I think it might be the most complicated thing I’ve made so far, even though I’ve done both socks and cables before. It’s combining them on itty bitty needles!:zombie:

That’s the 1st one, still on the leg of the 2nd one
(That’s the book with the pattern in the background)

:cheering:Welcome! No problem whatsoever that you got a head start…

They are adorable and I love the color. What’s the pattern?

The pattern is in Favorite socks, it’s the Uptown boot sock pattern. The yarn is Knit picks essentials red. I love the yarn, not too splitty, and soft but seems durable for socks. The pattern is quite easy but the directions get a bit wonky when you get to the heel. I actually decided the pattern directions for the heel confused me too much and brought out Silver’s heel instructions. Hence, DH saying “why does that part look wrong?” It looks wrong because you aren’t supposed to look at it!:roflhard:

Here’s a great one: Juanni’s Cable Socks

Oh, and don’t forget Twinkle Toes (toe up) from an episode of KG this week.

I might try that just to see how I like working toe up. The 2 socks I’ve made were leg down.

Arielluria, you are providing me with some wonderful sock patterns…I don’t know how you’re finding them (I’ve looked through lots of sources), but, THANK YOU.
I love that first one called “Saucy”…I’ve just started a new pair of socks, so I can’t get to them yet, but I WILL be knitting them, with gratitude to you in my little knitting heart !

Dotty, good, I’m glad! Here’s some more to think about

I perused Lion Brand cable stitches and came up with lots of good looking stitches to perhaps make up my own one-of-a-kind cable sock. See

I’m getting lots of good recommendations for cable socks on another post of mine. Looking For Cabled Sock Pattern
I posted that before I thought about a KA. I hope to start on SOMETHING this weekend.

Arielluria-did you find a pattern yet? the yarn harlot just posted her own design of a mans’ cabled sock. plain sock with just one cable running up and down the sides. very nice:muah:

Nope, not decided yet, hope to by tomorrow. Another post of mine has gotten some good posts with links from others. See Looking For Cabled Sock Pattern

Thanks for the Yarn Harlot’s Earl Grey pattern. I needed it to knit for DH!

Here’s a different one, someone might like it. Called Ocean Socks. Not quite a cable, but pretty.

Those look very nice!

I’m worried…I only have 2 balls of Knit Picks Essentials (Meteor Twist) [50 g ea.]…doesn’t seem like enough for 2 socks. Has anyone used this for socks?

If not enough perhaps I’ll just make fingerless gloves with them.

I am using kp essentials right now for the socks I am making, and it seems to be enough? maybe it’s because they don’t go too far up the calf though?

Thanks! What are you knitting?

Hey I’d like to pop in and out of this thread. I found a cabled sock pattern in the latest Interweave Knit magazine. I was going to work on it as an in between project during my bigger projects I 'm working on right now.

I have that issue. There are several good socks in there. Which one are you making?

Can I play?

Have you landed on a sock yet? The links to all the different sock patterns were great. I regularly look for sock patterns and it seems I always find the same old ones. These were new to me and I Love them! thank you

Right now I’m making some socks for my mom, no cables. Then I plan to make another pair for her, the Bed Socks from Nancy Bush’s Vintage socks.

But there’s no rule saying I can’t work on more than one pair at a time right?
